Pork shoulder with potatoes

Posted on April 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a solid, no-fuss pork shoulder with potatoes that cooks low and slow until everything is tender, rich, and full of flavor.

🐖🥔 Slow Cooker Pork Shoulder with Potatoes

🧾 Ingredients

  • 1.5–2 kg pork shoulder (bone-in or boneless)
  • 1–1.5 kg potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots (optional), chopped
  • 1½ cups chicken or beef broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (adds depth)

🔪 Instructions

1. (Optional but recommended) Sear the pork

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Brown pork on all sides for better flavor

2. Load the slow cooker

  • Place onions, garlic, and carrots at the bottom
  • Add pork shoulder on top
  • Surround with potatoes

3. Add liquids & seasoning

  • Pour in broth and soy/Worcestershire sauce
  • Sprinkle salt, pepper, paprika, herbs

4. Cook

  • Low: 8–10 hours (best for tenderness)
  • High: 5–6 hours

5. Finish

  • Pork should fall apart easily
  • Shred or slice and mix back with juices
  • Taste and adjust salt/pepper

🔥 What makes it good

  • Pork becomes soft and juicy, almost melt-in-mouth
  • Potatoes soak up all the savory juices
  • Slow cooking builds deep, rich flavor

🧠 Pro tips

  • Don’t cut potatoes too small or they’ll break apart
  • Add a splash of vinegar or lemon at the end for balance
  • For thicker gravy, mash a few potatoes into the sauce

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • With crusty bread
  • Over rice
  • Or just as a one-pot comfort meal

If you want, I can give you a spicy version, a BBQ-style version, or an oven-roast version with crispy potatoes.
