Croutons

Posted on April 27, 2026 by Admin

Croutons are small, toasted or fried pieces of bread used to add crunch and flavor to dishes—most commonly salads and soups.

🥖 What they are

  • Usually made from stale or day-old bread
  • Cut into cubes or bite-sized pieces
  • Seasoned and baked or pan-fried until golden and crispy

🍽️ Common uses

  • 🥗 Salads (like Caesar salad or even taco salad for extra crunch)
  • 🍲 Soups (tomato soup, creamy soups, etc.)
  • 🧀 Toppings for casseroles or baked dishes

👨‍🍳 Basic homemade croutons (quick recipe)

Ingredients:

  • Bread (any type: white, whole wheat, baguette)
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt
  • Optional: garlic powder, black pepper, oregano, chili flakes

Method:

  1. Cut bread into small cubes
  2. Toss with oil/butter + seasonings
  3. Spread on a baking tray
  4. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10–15 minutes
    • Stir once halfway for even crisping
  5. Cool → they become even crunchier

💡 Tips

  • Dry bread = better crunch (fresh bread gets chewy instead)
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week
  • Add herbs or parmesan for extra flavor

If you want, I can show you how to add croutons specifically to your seven-layer taco salad or make spicy taco-style croutons.
