Chicken gyros

Here’s a simple Chicken Gyros recipe—juicy spiced chicken, fresh veggies, and creamy sauce wrapped in warm flatbread or pita.


🌯🍗 Chicken Gyros

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 500g chicken thighs or breast (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp cumin (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Wrap

  • Pita bread or flatbread
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato (sliced)
  • Onion (sliced)
  • Optional: cucumber

Sauce (Tzatziki-style)

  • ½ cup yogurt (Greek yogurt works best)
  • 1 small cucumber (grated & drained)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt + pepper
  • Optional: dill or mint

🔥 Method

1. Marinate chicken

Mix chicken with olive oil, garlic, spices, and lemon juice.
Let sit 15–30 minutes (longer = better flavor).


2. Cook chicken

Pan:
Cook on medium-high for 8–10 minutes until browned and cooked through.

Air fryer:
Cook at 190°C for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway.


3. Make sauce

Mix yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and herbs.


4. Assemble gyros

  • Warm pita/flatbread
  • Add chicken
  • Top with veggies
  • Drizzle sauce
  • Wrap and serve

🔑 Tips

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier gyros
  • Don’t skip marination—it builds flavor fast
  • Drain cucumber well so sauce isn’t watery

🍽️ Easy upgrades

  • Add fries inside wrap (street-style gyros)
  • Add feta cheese for richness
  • Add chili sauce for a spicy version
  • Serve as a bowl with rice instead of wrap
